The Mac App Store now has over 10,000 apps

The Mac App Store recently hit a new milestone, getting past the 10,000 mark in terms of the number of free and purchasable apps available. The Mac App Store is a rapidly growing channel for Mac users to find, download, and purchase software for their Macs. It follows in the footsteps of the iPhones App Store, which started it all back in 2008 when it became the first official way to install third-party apps natively on the iDevice.

The Mac App Store will likely grow in its significance when OS X Mountain Lion arrives this summer, thanks to Apples new Gatekeeper security feature which, by default, limits users to only being able to use apps installed through it or other trusted sources.
