Facebook Users Really ‘Liked’ Organ Donor Option: Study

TUESDAY, June 18 (HealthDay News) Adding an organ donation option to the average Facebook users profile prompted a dramatic rise in potential donors, researchers report.

In the day after the initiative launched last year, there was a 21-fold increase in donor registrations across the United States, according to the study in the American Journal of Transplantation.

Transplant experts collaborated with Facebook to alter the timeline platform on the social media giants site so that users could change their profile status to indicate organ donor. When they did so, they were given a link to their states official donor registry and their friends were sent a message about their new organ donor status, the researchers said.

Civitas was spun out of Alkermes (NASDAQ: ALKS) two years ago based on technology that can deliver a precise, high dose of a drug through an inhaler. With a new round of cash from the Michael J. Fox Foundation and some promising data from a small clinical trial in hand, the startup based in Chelsea, MA, is closer to proving that technology can help improve a decades-old, yet flawed, drug for Parkinsons Disease.

Civitas is announcing today that it has won a $1 million grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support second mid-stage study for CVT-301, an inhalable version of levodopa, or L-dopa pills, that is administered via a device about the size of a large felt-tipped pen, according to CEO Glenn Batchelder.

Recently we added another eater to the team. Little B is now a big brother to Little T. Naturally I celebrated the new man in my life in the traditional way with a bagel and lox

Lox is a big no-no when youre pregnant. Its also one of my favorite foods. When Little B was born, Lawman brought me not one but TWO Russ and Daughters bagels with lox in the recovery room at the hospital. This time around, I waited until I got back to Brooklyn to get my lox fix and made my inaugural trip to Shelskys on Smith Street.

Two years ago, seven-year-old Maddie Willett was told that she had to pledge an oath to god if she wanted to remain in Girlguiding UK (their version of the Girl Scouts).

The pledge reads: I promise that I will do my best, to love my God, to serve the Queen and my country, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Guide law.

Her parents, Barry and Juliette Willett, are furious the 2nd Crawley Down Brownies troop in West Sussex has refused to alter the wording so their daughter could make the promise.

We dont have a belief in God and our daughter is yet to make her decision, Mrs Willett said.
